The payments infrastructure in Bangladesh is pretty terrible.

Was helping a friend out for integrating payment portals on a website.PayPal asked for basic details and was done in a day. Stripe asked for a few details and was done in two days.

On the other hand, SSLCommerz has a list of like 20 documents, asked for a work order on paper, asked for physical signatures and seal, etc. And then they asked for payment before anything is working. Then called back (after 3 emails and 32 days of followups) later saying that the NID and Trade License should have a signature on it. Like, bruh the only person who should sign those is a VVIP whose name I am not allowed to utter 🙄

Plus why in the name of the holy Merlin’s saggiest pants would anyone photocopy their NID, sign it, and then scan it, and then email it in the name of digitization? There is a whole verification service from the government just to avoid that!

But it doesn’t end there. They ask for the user to place their own footer on the user’s site, write the Trade License address on the footer like we live in 1998, and vomit on the UI of the product + on the payment flow before they can approve it in the next quarter.

What a shitshow.
